Why Game of Thrones Fans Are Losing it Over the Episode 2 Preview

I’m going to assume that if you’ve clicked on this link you are here of your own accord and want to discuss the official HBO trailer for Season 7, Episode 2 “Stormborn.” If not, well, what are you doing here? Leave!!

The official synopsis from HBO for Episode 2 reads: “Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) receives an unexpected visitor. Jon (Kit Harington) faces a revolt. Tyrion (Peter Dinklage) plans the conquest of Westeros.”

What that synopsis doesn’t promise is the incredible, long-awaited reunion we see in the Episode 2 trailer:

Yep that is Arya Stark coming face-to-face with her long-lost direwolf Nymeria. Fans have been rooting for Arya to meet up again with her wolf since she drove Nymeria away (for her own good) in Season 1. In the books, Arya’s connection to her wolf is much, much stronger. They stay in communication via dreams and skin-changing. In the show, the direwolf connection has never been as important.

The rest of the trailer is primarily focused on how Westeros is dealing with the arrival of Daenerys. Both Cersei (Lena Headey) and Yohn Royce of the Vale (Rupert Vansittart) are sewing seeds of distrust about the Targaryens across Westeros. And they have a bit of a point. Dany does come with two (two) armies known for their propensity to rape: the Ironborn and the Dothraki.

Meanwhile Team Targaryen is hard at work trying to figure out how to take the Seven Kingdoms. Yara (Gemma Whelan) and Ellaria (Indira Varma) have officially joined Daenerys’s Dragonstone war council.

But all work and no play makes for a dull war and Team Targaryen also, obviously, knows how to have fun, too. Even if “fun” for Tyene Sand (Rosabell Laurenti Sellers) is stabbing people.

Game of Thrones Season 7, Episode 2 “Stormborn” airs Sunday, July 23.
