Taxstone was indicted for the murder of Troy Ave’s bodyguard and friend Ronald “Banga” McPhatter who was shot and killed during a shootout at New York’s Irving Plaza in 2016.

On Thursday (July 13), the podcaster was formally charged with second degree murder for his involvement in the May 2016 shooting, reports DNAInfo (New York). Taxstone, whose real name is Daryl Campbell, pleaded not guilty during a hearing on Thursday.

Last month, Taxstone plead guilty to two federal weapon charges after admitting to possess a firearm as a felon and receiving a firearm in interstate commerce. The Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s office argue that he brought the gun to Irving Plaza that would later killed Ronald McPhatter. If Taxstone is convicted of the charges, he could face up to 20 years in a federal prison.

Troy Ave, who was shot in the leg during the shootout, was arrested on attempted murder and weapons charges after police released the video of the rapper shooting from a gun in the venue. The Brooklyn rapper is currently out on bail and under house arrest with some travel restrictions.

Attorneys for Taxstone and Troy Ave had no comment on the matter.
