Marvel at the wider world of Mega-City One.
IGN has today premiered the first concept art for Judge Dredd: Mega-City One, IM Global and Rebellion’s long-brewing revival that’s poised to bring John Wagner and Carlos Ezquerra’s square-jawed law enforcer to the small screen. And though the end product may be a full two years away, Mega-City One has been coming on in leaps and bounds.
Case in point: Series producer Brian Jenkins recently announced that Karl Urban has come into contention to once again don the mantle of judge, jury, and executioner. Negotiations are said to be ongoing, but it’s clear that both parties are keen to turn that long-requested dream into a reality.
Story-wise, there are precious few details currently available for Judge Dredd: Mega-City One, but this first-look concept art does present a faithful rendition of Wagner and Ezquerra’s dystopian universe, what with its interlocking highways and bright city lights.
First Concept Art For Judge Dredd: Mega-City One Unveils A Grim Dystopia
Entitled ‘Democracy March’ and ‘Lowlife Arrival’, each piece of art tells a story in and of itself, and fans have speculated that IM Global’s reimagining will delve deep into the lore of Mega-City One, rather than limiting the focus to Dredd himself. That’s one of the inherent advantages of TV as a platform, so we’re hopeful that all involved will use that platform to construct a complex, thriving world.
That’s something that producer Jason Kingsley has touched on in the past, stating that the Dredd TV shows will involve “multi-thread storylines, one of which will be Dredd’s but others which take us into the wider world of Mega-City One.”
Judge Dredd: Mega-City One is a joint venture between IM Global and Rebellion, one which is purportedly eyeing a premiere in the early stages of 2019. Regardless of when it arrives, Kingsley is confident it’ll be a seamless blend of the “macabre and the insane.”
